Honouring excellence in Bharatanatyam and the classical arts
Tapas Cultural Foundation recognises outstanding contributions to Bharatanatyam through two prestigious award programmes — the Vidhya Tapasvi Award and the Tapas Aashirwada Award — each serving a distinct purpose within the broader mission of honouring excellence in the classical arts.
The Vidhya Tapasvi Award is Tapas Cultural Foundation's most distinguished honour — presented to artists, gurus, and scholars who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit and propagation of Bharatanatyam. The award recognises not just technical mastery, but the deeper qualities of dedication, scholarship, and service to the art form.
Established by Smt. Mahalakshmi Ashwin, the award reflects the values at the heart of Tapas Cultural Foundation — that true excellence in Bharatanatyam is inseparable from character, commitment, and a spirit of selfless service.
Nominations accepted from across the Bharatanatyam community — artists, institutions, and the public.
An independent panel of senior artists and scholars evaluates nominations against the selection criteria.
Award presented at an annual ceremony, accompanied by a citation and cultural programme.

While the Vidhya Tapasvi recognises a lifetime of achievement, the Aashirwada celebrates potential and encourages the next generation.
