The ever-growing banyan tree of Bharatanatyam knowledge and culture
Vatavriksha — the banyan tree — is a symbol of growth, shelter, and continuity. Like the banyan that spreads its branches and sends down new roots, Tapas Vatavriksha is our living cultural ecosystem: nurturing scholarship, facilitating knowledge exchange, and creating spaces for artistic growth beyond the classroom.
This initiative encompasses our cultural journal Patrika, the Gurukulam intensive workshop programme, and a growing library of resources and recordings for students, scholars, and enthusiasts of Bharatanatyam worldwide.
Patrika is Tapas Cultural Foundation's scholarly journal dedicated to the art and culture of Bharatanatyam. Each edition brings together critical essays, artist profiles, historical explorations, and creative writing — building an archive of thought around the living art form.
The journal serves as a platform for voices across the Bharatanatyam community: from senior scholars and practitioners to emerging writers who wish to contribute to the discourse.
We welcome scholarly articles, artist profiles, reviews of performances and books, and creative writing related to Bharatanatyam and Indian classical arts. Submissions should be original, unpublished, and between 800–2000 words. Please write to us via the contact page.
